How are you using Social Media to grow your network and your business?

March 2, 2009 by Suzi Dafnis

How are you using Social Media to increase your network, to connect with clients and to raise your profile?

Social media is here to stay! That’s my opinion anyhow. The tools  may change (ie. tomorrow’s Facebook is yet to be discovered) but the idea of connecting with others, being ‘social’ and engaging in conversation with your customers, prospects and community is just a normal way to do business.

I’m asking to get from YOU:  how you are using social media in your business?

Are you using blogs, wikis, social networking sites, online communities, forums etc to engage in conversation with peers, customers or prospects?  How is this working to grow your business, raise your profile, grow your network?

This is the focus question for this month’s conversation at the Australian Businesswomen’s Network. Post your answers here.

With your permnission we’d like to use your comments in our upcoming newsletter – Women in Business – which goes to over 11,000 women.

Just add your comment here below! The newsletter will be published next week.

    Hi Suzi,

I am loving how Twitter enables me to QUICKLY and easily pass on information, ask others’ opinions, connect with my target market, current clients and potential clients and receive information from trusted influencers.

Sitting ‘behind’ Twitter sits my blog, facebook profile, linked in profile and participation in other social networking sites (like the ABN for example).

In short, Twitter, backed up by those other sites, raises my profile and credibility, keeps me connected and informed and extends my reach to a wider audience.

Social Media and Networking on the Internet has been the driving force behind the startup and growth of my business. It’s given me opportunities and rewards, both professional and personal, that otherwise I would not have found.

I publish a blog to provide a resource to existing and potential clients, to demonstrate my knowledge and help build my reputation online. I participate in Twitter and Facebook to connect and grow a community of likeminded people across Australia.

Best of all, it’s incredibly cost effective and allows me to have a conversation with my target audience – helping me to adapt my business to their needs so we both win.

I’m finding Online Social Media is beginning to have a massive impact on how business is being conducted. Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter and bookmarking services are providing us all with an easy way to keep in touch with friends, as well as a new way of doing business and generating massive referrals. More and more people are asking their online social networks for recommendations and referrals and this means we are finding products and services through these mediums each and every day!

I have been blogging now for around 6 months to find a global market for my eproducts and services, some which are not yet available.

I look at blogging as marketing, it raises my credibility in the eyes of potential clients. and it finds me potential clients I’d have no other way of reaching.

My blog is full of style and image tips http://www.insideoutstyle.blogspot.com

I also use facebook and have a business web page there, which I feed my blog into plus announce other events and activities.

I haven’t Twittered or Digged it or the like as I find there are so many potential platforms and as a time poor mum, haven’t had the time to research and understand how they all work.

There is so much to learn and I feel like I’m falling behind and will never catch up.
