Leaders set goals. What are your goal achievement strategies?

January 26, 2009

In a recent blog post my favourite marketer Seth Godin said:

“It seems to me, though, that the people who get things done, who lead, who grow and who make an impact… those people have goals.”

I’m currently compiling the next issue of our Women in Business e-newsletter and would like to include your tips for goal achievement (as opposed to goal setting).

What has worked for you? What has not? Please add a comment to share your thoughts.

A compilation of these answers along with your contact info (and permission of course) will be published for our community of women across Australia to learn from.

Here’s a sample of our current newsletter

NEWS: We’ve just announced a new business webinar on Goals. We’ll be looking at a number of ways to set goals… So you can pick and choose ones that suit you.  But more important than setting the goals is how do you achieve them in your already full life?  You’ll learn a number of tips and tricks to do just that based on actual experience… not just theoretical ideals. Here’s the info.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm wishes,

Suzi Dafnis

Do you expect your business to grow next year?

November 21, 2008

A recent poll of our Australian readers showed these results in response to the question:

What will be the biggest issue for women business owners in 2009?

  • economy/credit crunch – 72%
  • compliance (BAS, Superannuation, OH&S) – 6%
  • staff shortages – 6%
  • childcare – 17%

Today a new UK survey has revealed that 88 per cent of women are forecasting business growth between now and 2013, while just 74 per cent of men are doing the same.

So, what will it be for you? At the Australian Businesswomen’s Network we believe that now is the time to look for opportunities to innovate, to connect, to collaborate and to market, market, market your business. Hard times can be a opportunity for small business (which has the ability to move quickly, change direction, delve into a niche at lightning speed) to grow and expand.

Whether it’s by necessity or desire, what can you do to put your business in the position to grow and prosper in the new year?

What will be the biggest issue for Aussie women business-owners in 2009?

November 13, 2008

A recent survey of women business-owners in the US revealed that the current economic climate was seen to be the biggest issue for women for 2009.

We’ve adapted the poll to suit Australian conditions and Australian women business-owners are having their say on what will be the biggest issues facing THEM and their small businesses in the new year.

Have Your Say

November 1, 2008

In the coming weeks we’ll feature mini-surveys on issues that impact your business. Past surveys through our hervoice.com.au initiative (which is dedicated to providing advocacy for women entreprenuers) allowed you to share information that we have subsequently shared with government, such as these issues that you have raised as being of importance to you:

* Complex reporting and legal compliance requirements
* The superannuation gap between males and females
* Excessive red tape, bureaucracy and paperwork
* Difficulty in dealing with government
* Lack of Government support, subsidies, incentives and grants for businesswomen
* Lack of paid maternity leave
* Difficulty in accessing child and aged care
* Taxation issues
* Workers’ compensation premiums
* IR and OHS legislation
* Shortage of skilled workers
* Bank fees and charges
* Lack of education for small business owners
* High failure rate of small business
* Succession planning
* Limited numbers of female students considering business ownership as a career
* Cost of intellectual property registration and protection
* Women’s health and wellbeing
